Reform (All in RP)

It had been a year since the introduction of the Reforming Schools for Gifted Youngsters. One whole year that saw people leave their children in the care of the schools set up to house the alarming rate of special abilities that they had no idea how to control. Fearing, forced, the parents of these kids crying in relief or grief as they waved goodbye at the heavy gates of the boarding schools.

The government deemed them 'safe' and 'able to give those the chance to learn about themselves and their abilities in a normal school system'. And whoever believed that was a fool. Most of the schools were treated like a prison, which was what school was, but you didn't have bars on the windows and heavy locks on the doors to the dorm rooms.

The guards were mostly ass holes, as you would expect from the military, but the teachers and staff were mostly okay, depending on the day and how much they had to put up with until the normal school hours ended. That's when they could leave for the most part until curfew at 10pm.

The students that stayed were classed into dorms judging on level of ability and how harmful they were to others, the lowest being a D rank, they didn't need much looking out for, unlike the A ranks and the occasional A+ ranks, who had to be monitored around the clock.

Sometimes people would hear about the serious ones, every now and then an S rank youngster would appear, and then never be heard from again...

Right now, none of that mattered as Mikhail walked down the corridor of the dorms to his new school, visible blue eye darting around the doors either wide open and showing the students who had just finished school for the day, or shut to play loud music, causing the fifteen year old to swallow thickly, feeling a lot like the lamb thrown to the wolves. The duffel bag across his shoulder shifting as he was lead to his room by two heavily armoured men.

Door opened for him, he peered about the empty room, staring at the bed to the left, neatly made, nothing on the walls, the right side messy and walls covered in posters. He was sharing with someone, great.

Nodding to the escort that he was fine, he stepped into his new home, sitting down on his new bed and sighed, burying his face into his hands, fixing the cotton eye-patch over his right eye, trying not to remember the look his father gave him as he was made to walk away from him.

It'd been a long day, much like every other school day. Not to mention a pain in the ass. And to top it off, Torance's roommate had chucked a fit and trashed their room, and to Hell if she was going to clean it up. Bad enough she was made to share in the first place.

Sitting out in the hall, with her knees pulled up and her arms rested across them absently, the loose strands of blonde hair that had wormed their way free from the pulled back dreadlocks standing up on end, as if she were electrically charged. Grumpy, alone and hard to get along with were the few words that had been used to describe her the short time she'd been there, but perhaps that was just because people never tried to get to know her. Or, it could be because she didn't usually let people get to know her.

The sound of footsteps caught her attention as a new arrival walked past, flanked by the usual heavily armed escorts. She remembered her first day here; it wasn't the most pleasant of times, but at least it was better to be hated here, than to be hated in her own home by the family she thought loved her.

A bitter smirk played the sixteen year old's lips at the thought, and she hung her head, staring at the floor between her feet. Almost two years she'd been here at this so-called school, her parents having gotten rid of her as soon as they could. But no one ever really got used to this shit hole. Especially not those that managed to move under the radar.

Standing from her spot in the hall, the blonde gave a slight push against the door to her dorm room, the hinges completely snapped. The heavy wood resounded a loud thud, causing her to pause before stepping around it and moving into the trashed space. Hitching up her cargo pants, Torance wandered around piles of her own destroyed crap, only to slump onto her half torn-up mattress; couldn't even consider it a bed when looking at the state of it. A sigh wormed it's way past her lips and she flopped back.

This wasn't the first time it'd happened, her roommate going balistik. It seemed to only happen to her; why did she always get the crazy ones? Though, the authorities had tried to pin it on her at one stage. That hadn't gone down too well. Too bad for them.

It took a while, but the soft greyish haired, mousy shy teen finally got all of what little belongings he had out and put away, the drawers at the foot of his single bed still fairly empty after putting his clothes inside, a small photo put on the night stand next to his pillow and a few tins of tuna in the drawer just underneath. Sighing loudly once more, he stood up from the bed and poked his head out of the room into the hallway.

It /looked/ normal enough, mostly like the boarding school he was forced from to be placed here, for whatever reason he had no clue of. It wouldn't hurt to have a look around and find out where the bathrooms and shower bays where before he had to go and use them later on, right? Be better to look for them now rather than in the middle of the night and making a huge racket.

So his head following his body out into the hall, hands fidgeting at his sides as he slowly walked down to one end, trying not to peer into the rooms that had their doors wide open, just in case he unintentionally started a fight with someone else.

There were three types of bathrooms in this place. The 'boys' the 'girls' and the 'its'. The 'its' were the ones who could either change their gender, didn't have one, or only had 'gender' as a matter of opinion.

Fray, for example, was an 'it', but most often thought of 'himself' as a guy, though 'he' had no problems with being perceived as a girl too. Generally didn't care really. Of all the 'its', Fray was actually one of the most tame. Fray wasn't blue, or gilled, or feathery, and didn't have a tail or tentacles or any of that stuff like some of the other 'its'. Fray's first roommate, for example, had apparently gone sky-diving one day, and had been rather more bird-like when making the touch-down than when they'd left the plane.

Most of the 'its' who had a 'before' tended to think of themselves as the gender they'd been, but they still got their own 'its' bathroom, which was divided on the inside for 'boy-based its' and 'girl-based its', with a middleground used by those, like Fray, who couldn't give a damn and had somewhat embraced their 'it-ness'. The ones like Fray generally tended to have been the ones who'd been born 'its', but then, so had Fray, and no amount of hormone injections would change 'him'. Fray's parents had almost come to terms with the 'it-ness' of their child when these 'Reforming Schools' had begun showing up. Fray been carted off with tears and kisses, but carted of all the same.

Zipping up 'his' fly, Fray washed 'his' hands at the sink, ran a still damp hand through dark-brown curls so that the shoulder-length locks were away from 'his' face, and left the 'little its room' behind. Eyes the colour of softests growing moss scanned the hallway as Fray re-entered general school life, catching for a moment on a pair of guards who looked like they'd just dropped off someone new.

"Poor sod," Fray commented softly to 'himself'. No one, not even generally apathetic its like Fray, liked the atmosphere in this place.

Staring at the ceiling wasn't getting shit done. And her being in the room wasn't going to say "I'm not cleaning this shit up" when the orderly's came by. Pulling herself up off the bed, Torance removed herself from the scene, lifting a hand to attempt at pushing the static-y strands of hair down; of course, this didn't do much, the disobedient follicles only drifting to their upright position as soon as she removed her hand.

Letting out a remorseful breath, the blonde took a glance down the hall, as if deciding which way to go; like the decision was really that hard to make. Maybe she'd go for a shower, or stir up some trouble. Something to spark some interest. Though usually the consequences for these events weren't worth the small window of entertainment they provided.

Deciding it was probably better to keep a level head and seek out some sort of relaxant after returning to a trashed room at the end of the day, Torance maneuvered herself back into the confines of her room, only to emerge moments later with a towel and bag, heading her way down the hall toward the female bathrooms. Passing the familiar face of the new student she'd seen on his way in, she gave him an almost cautious look before moving on; one never knew when a new student was dangerous.

It really was amazing and frightening at the same time, all these people in the one place, confined and treated like... well, he wasn't sure yet how they were treated, but he was pretty sure that they looked like they were treated like dirt. Mikhail sighed as the students passed him in the halls, giving him looks of displeasure, curiosity and pity as he made his way down the long hall.

One of the students, a blonde girl carrying a towel under her arm and a small bag in the other, gave him a quick look before continuing on the same way he was going, causing him to look up and open his mouth to try and get her attention before sighing and shutting it, hanging his head a little at his shyness.

At least he was going the right way for the shower bays, stopping at the three doors. Three? Why three? A sign saying 'Female' to the left, the door on the right saying 'Male' and the door in the middle had just a big question mark on it. Confused, he left it alone, opening the male labelled door to have a peek inside before retreating back for his room, rubbing his arm as he walked.

Everything was so scary.

Showering was difficult for Torance, especially if other people were around. There was always the risk of someone standing in the same body of water as her and receiving a rather unpleasant shock; of course, this would then lead to blames being thrown around, and no one really wanted that. Ducking into the bathrooms, eyes scanning the vicinity for any signs of life, the quiet blonde made her way to one of the stalls, content that the showers were void of life.

It didn't take long for her to find herself under the warm waters, dreads let down and stress rolling off her shoulders like the cascading mist of a cool Winter's morning. Showers always calmed her; they always had, and she doubted they would ever stop being her comfort.

Standing under the water, allowing the warm flow to embrace her, Torance couldn't help but think back to the mousey kid that had just arrived; poor bastard didn't even seem to know much of what was going on. But really, did any of them? It was like walking blind into a dark room you knew was filled with man eating beasts that would tear you limb from limb without a second thought.

Scary as all fuck.

Maybe she'd see about introducing herself, if no one beat her to it. Then again, keeping to herself was always easier.
Finishing up in the shower rather quickly for a girl who used the time under the shower-head to relax, Torance snatched the towel off the hook on the back of the door and shoved it against her face, dragging it down in attempts to rid her face of water. She soon repeated this with the rest of her, and had her a fresh set of her usual, casual cargo pants and singlet back on. But she remained in the bathroom for a while longer, using the time there alone as a chance to debate whether or not to go back to her room.

Half way back down the hall, Mikhail stopped at the sight of the person opening the door to his new home, figuring it was his room mate returning from where ever they were, he slowed his return back to the room. He couldn't be this scared of everyone all the time, he was going to have to make the effort to try and talk to someone sometime soon, or try to avoid the entire school population after school hours. That, was nearly impossible by the looks of it.

Mikhail paused outside of a door, room 209, as the voices grew louder and louder with heated discussion, that was until he ducked as quick as he could, stuck under the heavy door that just barely missed crashing into him once it was thrown off it's hinges, now forced to watch the fight erupt into the hallway between the two occupants.

A pair of boys, both roughly the same height kicking, punching and tearing into each other, the grey haired teen under the door covering one of his ears with his hand at the sharp wailing of what could only be described as a banshee, the high pitched noise hurting the other people around them until the guards stepped in, dragging both of them away.

The other students started to leave, shaking their heads, going to gossip in their rooms about what just happened, pretty much leaving the poor teen to try and lift the door off his body himself.

The commotion outside in the hall had Torance cutting her loitering in the bathroom short, curiousity getting the best of her like it did most in this place. By the time she'd made her way back out into the hallway, the fight had been broken up and the two participants carted off by the guards, leaving the result of their argument out in the hall.

Taking a closer look at the door, it seemed to be on a rather odd angle, not to mention barring her way back to her dorm room. Taking the few, casual steps it took to get to the slab of carved wood, Torance stared down at the horizontal door, tilting her head slightly, dreads slipping over her shoulder and dripping water onto the wooden surface.

Crouching, she leant down until she could see under the heavy rectangle, lifting a brow at the new kid; he was suffering already, the poor kid.

"You all right under there?" She questioned, half interested in his answer. "C'mon, I'll help y' lift this thing." Hooking her fingers under the door, she straightened herself slightly, waiting for the 'okay' to start lifting.

The day jet kept gettin better and better, fingers curling under the door catching his attention, bright blue eye gazing up at he blonde girl that had passed him in the hall a few minutes ago, pale cheeks burning with embarrassment.

"Th-they s-started fighting! T-the door flew off the hinges!" he stammered, betting his bottom dollar that he was a righteous fool right now for his surprise at what just happened. He'd never seen and thing like that before, and the girl looking at him didn't really look impressed.

Turning his gaze to the floor, Mikhail swallowed thickly. "TH-thank you for... For helping me."

Fray watched the fight from the entrance of 'his' domocile across the hall, only blinking when the door was exploded off its hinges so that nothing would attack 'his' eyes at high speed. One learned that basic defence around here fairly quickly at least.

"Poor sod," Fray reiterated again, seeing the obviously new kid trapped under the door. The fight was still going on though, and Fray knew better than to get anywhere near them when they were going at it. Knew to stay at least five feet away until the guards had dealt with the scene too. Conveniently, that was the distance between the Fray's room and the now destroyed room accross the hallway.

And of all people, it's one of the girls who helps the newbie. Not even one of the really-friendly-but-kinda-butch ones either.

Fray sighed and crossed the hall. Might as well say 'hi' to the new neighbour.

"I think everybody saw," Fray said gently. "Try not to worry about it. Unless you had anything particularly valuable in there?" Fray asked. "Cause I think it's all confetti now," the it said, nodding into the completely destroyed room.

"They should really know better than to put newbies in with the volatlie ones. I'm Fray by the way," Fray said, giving the mousey boy a small, slightly smirking smile, which flashed into a full grin for a moment when he directed it at Torance. Fray was her neighbour as well after all, and aware of the mess her current room mate had left her with recently, regardless of however much or little the two of them may or may not have talked.

"Welcome to Purgatory."

Mikhail squeaked a little as another person came up to him after the fight, the door set to one side and off his body, the teen slowly sitting up and inspection himself for damage. Nothing so far, he was very, very lucky he ducked. Turning his bright blue gaze to the guy who just appeared, roaming over his features, he shook his head a little.

"M-my name is Mikhail, b-but that isn't my r-room..." He stammered, pointing to the trashed room the door was thrown from, deciding it was time to stand up, holding onto the wall as he did so. "I-I am in the room just down the h-hall."

And he was lucky for that too, cause if all the fights in this place were like that, then maybe his roommate was a lot nicer? Hopefully?

Turning back to Torance, he nodded his head again in thanks. "H-How long have you both been here? D-does that sort of thing happen often?"

With the door out of the way, there really wasn't much reason to stay and chat. Then again, there wasn't much to go back to, either. She didn't even give Fray a second glance on his approach, eyes on the destroyed room that almost mirrored her own.

It was the question that had her attention back on the new kid. How long'd she been there? She was one of the first kids admitted to the school.
"'Bout a year." She replied quietly, giving the mousey boy a once over with her gaze before turning her eyes toward the hall again.

The static had already recollected, the loose, dry strands of her hair standing up on end.
"So, do you got any idea on who y' roomie is? Bet yer hopin' it ain't a nutter like those two dickweeds."

She didn't like to give out her name, often; if people wanted to know, they'd ask. And if she didn't like them, she wouldn't tell. Pretty simple.
